Post-market: Markets remain bearish; Sensex ends below 19700

    Following are the stocks/sectors which were in news today:
  • Jain Irrigation declined 5.17% after the company reported a net loss of Rs31.17 crore for the third quarter ended December, 2012, due to sluggish sales.
  • Sun Pharmaceutical Industries rose 4.06% after the company announced that the US health regulator has approved a generic version of the cancer drug Doxil. 
  • UCO Bank dropped 5.11% after the net profit of bank fell 69.19% to Rs102.47 crore on 9.75% increase in total income to Rs4360.88 crore in Q3 December 2012 over Q3 December 2011.
Market sentiment:
The market breadth stood in favor of declines. Of the 2953 stocks traded on the BSE, 819 (27.73%) rose, 1417 (47.99%) fell and 717 (24.28%) stocks remained unchanged.

Sectoral & stock screening
All the 13 sectoral indices closed in the red zone except Healthcare which was the only gaining sector up by 0.86%. Top Losers- BSE CD down by 1.57%, BSE FMCG fell by 1.03%, BSE Power was down by 0.75%

Among 'A' group stocks, top three gainers were- Berger Paints rose by 4.23%; Sun Pharma up by 4.06% and Suzlon Energy surged by 3.04%. Top three losers were- Jubilant FoodWorks declined by 8.24%, Opto Circuits was down by 6.77% and Jain Irrigation fell by 5.17%. 

Global signals
Asian shares eased on Tuesday as investors booked profits from recent strong rallies in the face of weak US data and worries that a potential political shake-up could disrupt the eurozone's efforts to resolve its debt crisis.

European shares were largely flat as renewed worries over political risks in the euro zone trimmed demand for riskier assets for a second day. The euro extended losses today as traders booked profits on the currency's stellar gains so far this year, after it hit a 14-month high last week.

US stock index futures poised for a higher opening at the Wall Street on Tuesday.
